400 years and counting, you tell me...

What's changed???

We are still chasing generational wealth

like a run away slave chasing freedom.

Our ancestors overcame poverty

often times, turning culinary waste

into gourmet masterpieces,

Soul Food fueling our pursuit of greatness,

our pursuit for equality.

Our ancestors bought land, built houses,

created big business,

BLACK-OWNED BUSINESSES.

Yet in the 1920's, you continued the

destruction of our character,

branding us, mutilating us....

the Black Wall Street Massacre...

Did you think we would forget?

How could we forget?!

a blood drenched stain in America's history,

herded and slaughtered like impure livestock.

How about the 1950's???

displacing us, building the US Interstate Highway.

CONSISTENTLY, RELENTLESSLY, EFFORTLESSLY,

tearing us down,

our property, our livelihood,

our dream of attaining generational wealth.

You teased us in the 1960's, the Fair Housing Act,

a failure to eradicate the invisible,

imperial gates of segregation,

segregated from the palace

and the generational wealth it yields.

Instead, they enslaved us again

from cotton fields to the concrete jungle,

the ghetto, confining us to inner city housing,

trapped in this continuous cycle of,

racism, discrimination, prejudice, and bias

racial microaggressions, slowly

hardening the cement we walk on

swallowing our people whole,

imprisoning us, making us slaves

to poverty, drugs, gun violence, gang affiliations,

the incarceration of Kings...and their heirs...

leaving so many Queens alone,

to sing the inner city blues........
